PhD positions in chemistry, physics, material science and electrical engineering

Job description

  • Would you like to be trained in research on the forefront of organic solar cells?
  • Are you in the first four years of your research career, or will you graduate in 2017?
  • Do you have a background in chemistry, physics, material science or electrical engineering?
  • Are you interested in doing your PhD in high profile research institutes across Europe under guidance of renowned supervisors?
Apply for our exciting research on “Spins for Efficient Photovoltaic devices based on Organic MOlecules” (SEPOMO), and become part of the next generation of photovoltaic experts!
Supported and co-funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN Programme, the SEPOMO network offers 15 high level fellowships for joint research on efficient photovoltaic devices. The most talented and motivated students will be selected for a 3-year advanced multidisciplinary research training, preferably starting June 2017 (10 positions) and October 2017 (5 positions).

ABOUT THE RESEARCH

We aim to bring the performance of organic solar cells forward by taking advantage of the so far unexplored degree of freedom of photogenerated species in organic materials, their spin. As a PhD in our network, you will contribute to the development of several novel routes to enhance the efficiency of organic solar cells by understanding and exploiting the electronic spin interactions. This will allow us to address crucial bottlenecks in state-of-the-art organic solar cells: we will increase their efficiency by reducing the dominant recombination losses and by enhancing the light harvesting and exciton generation, e.g. by means of internal upconversion of excited states.

BENEFITS OF DOING YOUR PHD IN A ITN NETWORK

ITNs are financially supported by the European Commission because they provide excellent research, training and career aspects. The benefits of being a PhD student in an ITN network:
  • You will get the chance to participate in specially developed courses (e.g. on specific techniques, academic soft skills, etc.)
  • You can  already at a very early stage start building your personal professional network due to the embedding of our PhD projects in an academic/industrial network
  • You will be exposed to industry and the challenges in industry already during the PhD, because we also have partners from industry in our network (who also contribute to the training)
  • You will get the opportunity to spend some time in the labs of other partners (thereby you will get familiar with other disciplines, techniques, cultures etc.), as the research projects are designed such that they will mostly have interdisciplinary components
  • You will be advised by excellent group leaders – they are all outstanding in their research and trainings.

Qualifications, or who can apply

The most important selection criteria are commitment to research and excellence in education, but enthusiasm and team spirit also count. More specifically:
  • Your educational background is in the area chemistry, physics, material sciences, electrical engineering or combinations thereof.
  • You have completed a European master’s degree or equivalent at the time of recruitment.
  • You are in the first four years of your research career and have not yet been awarded with a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment.
  • The positions are open to all nationalities. To comply with the European Commission’s mobility rule, you shall not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies) in the country of the host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to the recruitment date.
  • You have excellent proficiency in English language.
  • Participating host organizations may apply additional criteria.

Working conditions and salary

Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) offer highly competitive and attractive salary and working conditions.
  • Selected candidates will have a fulltime employment contract for the duration of 36 months.
  • Selected candidates will receive a salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations for early stage researchers. The basic gross salary (living allowance) is approximately € 3.000,- euro per month. A correction factor will be applied per country, therefore the exact gross salary will be confirmed upon appointment. Please consider that the net salary may be 20-30% lower due to taxes, social benefit premiums etc.
  • In addition to the living allowance, selected candidates will benefit from a mobility allowance of gross € 600,- per month for participation in training schools, workshops and conferences. Selected candidates who are married or have children may qualify for an additional family allowance of gross € 500,- per month.
  • Selected candidates will enjoy at least the same standards and working conditions as those applicable to local researchers at the host institution holding a similar position.

How to apply?

The call will remain open until all positions have been fulfilled. There are intermittent cut-off dates, every Tuesday at  23:59 CET. Please contact us on +905488212785 or for further information email us on batnanaconsult@gmail.com

BRIE BELLA SHARES FIRST FAMILY PHOTO AS A TRIO AFTER GIVING BIRTH

Brie Bella posted on her Instagram page late Thursday a photo of her sitting on a hospital bed and staring adoringly at her first child, newborn daughter Birdie Joe Danielson, lying there in front of her, as her husband Daniel Bryan stands over them as a proud dad and holds his exhausted wife's hand. The baby is wearing a knitted pink cap and her face is not shown. It marked the first public picture of the family as a trio.
"The greatest feeling in the world!!!" she wrote. "Can't even express the love I feel for her from the moment I saw her I was in love. Thank you all for your love and support. Birdie Joe is her Daddy's mini me!! #Imfinallyamommy #greatestlove #motherhood."

The Total Divas star gave birth to the baby Tuesday night, past Brie's original due date of April 30. Birdie weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces and measured 21 inches long. E! News had obtained the first photo of the baby, which shows Bryan holding baby Birdie's foot as Brie holds the newborn in her arms.
Brie's twin sister and Total Divas co-star Nikki Bella also posted on her Instagram page late Friday a close-up photo of her holding baby Birdie's hand.

"Oh my sweet little Birdie," she wrote. "From the moment I first saw you I knew it was unconditional love. I promise to protect and love you forever and ever. And my Brizee, you are the strongest, bravest person I know. So happy God made us twins. Don't know this world without you. And wouldn't ever want to. Goodness I love you both so much."
"PS Bryan never left her side, still hasn't," she added. "Seeing him as a dad is amazing. He's so strong."
