IMSU student Jane Okorie Onyinyechi redefines the rule of law

It is now well-established that the rule of law is a fundamental requirement in any contemporary constitutional democracy and that the current situation necessitates action from the highest levels of government and the Union down to the smallest individual. However, in order to effectively defend and advance the rule of law in contemporary States, it is vital to increase our understanding of the concept's precise definition. As a result, taking a step back to solve this issue is necessary.

Given the significance of the problem, it would seem appropriate that a sufficient amount of scholarly literature and institutional document production be governed by its precise definition. The fact that legal academics and practitioners throughout Europe still cannot agree on what constitutes the elements of the rule of law only serves to highlight how ill-defined and difficult the task at hand is. Legal professionals deal with a flexible "umbrella idea" rather than a procedural formality when talking about the rule of law.

The sheer fact that the rule of law has this particular feature makes it possible for it to be an essential component of every modern constitution and to provide protection in nations with various political, legal, and constitutional traditions and systems.

Regarding the first portion of the topic question, law students can first help advance the rule of law by taking advantage of the chances presented by their studies to educate themselves on the concept's academic definition and practical significance. They can also help advance the rule of law by being eager to research and stay up to date on newer developments in the field. A strong culture of the rule of law requires individual accountability as well.
