British woman arrested in Dubai after reporting rape

A British woman who told police in Dubai she had been raped has reportedly been charged with having extra-marital sex.
The woman in her 20s was allegedly attacked by two men from Birmingham while on holiday in the United Arab Emirates.
When she reported the incident, police arrested her and confiscated her passport, according to UAE law experts Detained in Dubai.
The woman has since been bailed but could face jail if found guilty at trial.
Radha Stirling, from the Detained in Dubai group, said the emirate's treatment of rape victims was "tremendously disturbing".
She said: "The UAE has a long history of penalising rape victims.
"It is still not safe for victims to report these crimes to the police without the risk of suffering a double punishment.
"Police regularly fail to differentiate between consensual intercourse and violent rape. Victims go to them expecting justice, and end up being prosecuted.
"They not only invalidate their victimisation, they actually punish them for it."
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are supporting a British woman in relation to this case and will remain in contact with her family."

A ZIMBABWE STUDENT SPREAD LIES / RUMORS ABOUT LATE ELIZABETH CHOTO

This is indeed a malicious attempt to ridicule or embarrass the Choto's family and also the good people of Nigeria. This Zimbabwe student or informant has no respect for the dead. In an interview with Zimbabwe media houses, He claimed to have known Elizabeth as shown in the attached screenshot photos.
But contrary to all the lies he told, the autopsy report performed on Late Elizabeth is now ready and it did not show that Elizabeth was pregnant. As a matter of fact, She had a clean bill of health until her death. She booked an appointment to meet the University Psychologist but She couldn't make it.
Whoever is this anonymous student or informant, He/She ought to tender an unreserved apology to Choto's family for this because they dont deserve it as they mourn their beloved daughter.

We condemn the report published by the Herald Newspaper and all other Zimbabwe state daily newspaper and also on www.zimnews.net. It is not professional for journalists to publish news without proper investigation. The media houses did not contact the management of Cyprus International University or CIUCONNECT to enquire on the state of affairs but rather based their it on hearsay from a 'unstable' student.
We condemn the report published in Herald Newspaper and all other Zimbabwe state daily newspaper and also on zimnew.net.

It is not professional for journalists to publish news without proper investigation. The media houses did not contact the management of Cyprus International University or CIUCONNECT to enquire on the state of affairs.

We urge the general public to disregard any rumor from students in Cyprus, the true story can only be told from the autopsy report.

We pray for the soul of the departed.
