Trump defender at impeachment debate says Jesus got a better deal in his trial

As the House debated articles of impeachment Wednesday, the president’s defenders reached all the way back to the biblical times, and across the globe to Pearl Harbor, for metaphors to describe what they said was happening to President Trump.
Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., compared the impeachment of Trump to the trial of Jesus Christ.
“Before you take this historic vote today, one week before Christmas, I want you to keep this in mind: When Jesus was falsely accused of treason, Pontius Pilate gave Jesus the opportunity to face his accusers. During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than Democrats afforded this president in this process.”
Loudermilk then yielded back, neglecting to mention that Pilate eventually let the crowd decide Jesus’s fate. Recent polls have shown a slim majority of Americans approving of Trump’s impeachment. Rep. Fred Keller, R-Pa., later said that he would pray for Democrats, using the same language as Jesus praying for his executioners on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Trump has refused to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry in any way, declining to supply requested documents and instructing his top aides not to testify.
Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., brought up the “belly of the beast,” an allusion to the story of Jonah and the whale, in a rambling commentary on the culture war he felt was being perpetrated by Democrats.
“I have descended into the belly of the beast,” Higgins said. “I have witnessed the terror within and I rise committed to oppose the insidious forces, but this unjust and weaponized impeachment brought upon us by the same socialists who threatened unborn life in the womb, who threatened Second Amendment protections of every American patriot and who have long ago determined that they would organize and conspire to overthrow President Trump.”
Higgins displayed a map showing all the counties that voted for Trump in 2016, making it appear as if he won an overwhelming share of the vote. (In fact, the 63 million votes he received, a figure frequently cited by his supporters, was nearly 3 million fewer than Hillary Clinton’s total.) “Our republic shall survive this threat from within. American patriots shall prevail,” he intoned.

Middle school math teacher Miranda fired over topless selfie sent to boyfriend

A middle school teacher says she was fired after an old topless selfie that she once sent to an ex-boyfriend popped up in a student’s inbox.
Three years ago, Lauren Miranda, a 7th-grade math teacher at Bellport Middle School in New York sent the private photo to her then-boyfriend, a teacher in the district. The couple soon split, but in January, the photo — that Miranda says she’s never made public — was attained by a student.
Miranda, 25, of Mastic Beach was fired from the South Country Central School District on Wednesday for not being a “role model,” according to a $3 million dollar lawsuit from attorney John Ray. This, despite a December 2017 evaluation (sent to Yahoo Lifestyle by Ray), calling Miranda an “outstanding” and “highly effective” teacher who was “genuinely dedicated” to her students.
Upon the discovery of the selfie, says the lawsuit, administrators interrogated Miranda “with the intention of humiliating, embarrassing, and berating” her about the photo. “Lauren was called into a meeting with all these men who flashed her photo on a computer screen and said, ‘Is this you?'” Ray tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
Miranda was suspended without pay, says the lawsuit, and on March 27, the school board voted to fire her.
“That picture was never posted,” Miranda said at a press conference. “How it got out is the million dollar question…If a male teacher’s nipples were displayed, there would be no punishment.”
Miranda said her principal told her, “How can I put you in front of a classroom where boys would be able to pull out their phone and look at this image of you?'”
Ray tells Yahoo Lifestyle his client is also being denied tenure, for which she was eligible this year. “The school district’s motive is discriminatory — they intended to sexualize her because she’s a woman.” He says the school would not reinstate Miranda’s job instead of a lawsuit.
“I loved my job, I never woke up in the morning and didn’t want to go,” Miranda said at the press conference. “I loved my students, my faculty. I really thought this is where I was going to spend the next thirty years of my life.”

Student had to bring his baby daughter to class so his professor watched her so he could pay attention

Here is a thing that happens to every parent: There’s somewhere you absolutely have to be — your current livelihood and possibly your future success depend on it — and all of your regular childcare options fall through. So often, they wind up staying home, knowing they’ll suffer for it. But sometimes, like in the case of one student at Morehouse College, they go with option B and bring the kid along.
On Friday, Nick Vaughn witnessed this scene in his math class, when his classmate, Wayne Hayer, showed up wearing his baby daughter in a carrier. The father explained to their professor, Nathan Alexander, that he couldn’t find a babysitter.
“No problem, in fact I will even hold her so you can take better notes in class,” Vaughn quoted Alexander as saying on his viral Facebook post.
